Punarnavadi Kwath is a classical Kwatha (decoction) described in the Sharangdhara Samhita and Bhaishajya Ratnavali (Shotha Chikitsa). It contains Punarnava root (Boerhavia diffusa), Haritaki, Neem bark, Daruharidra, Kutki, Patola, Guduchi and ginger. In Ayurveda, Punarnava is classed as Mutrala (supports urine flow) and Shothahara (supports reduction of swelling). The decoction is traditionally used to support Mutravaha Srotas (the urinary system), healthy fluid balance and Yakrit (the liver). It balances all three doshas. People with kidney disease should take it only on medical advice.
